Anatomy of a Fiberglass Boat

All fiberglass boats are made in a female mold. That means the piece that comes out of the mold is a male mirror image of the actual mold. But where did the mold come from? Manufacturers make their molds by laying fiberglass layers on an existing boat. So where did the original male piece (boat) come from to make the mold? That’s the difficult part. Most manufacturers make their mold from an already existing boat. They may make some modifications to the boat before they take a mold off of it in an attempt to improve the existing design or they may even take several pieces from different boats and glue them together in an attempt to build an “all new” boat. Most of these boats that end up in the market place are really just warmed over versions of older existing products.

The new JH Performance Outlaw 230X is a completely new product built from the ground up. The Outlaw’s design was not compromised by the use of any existing boats or pieces of boats. Because we started with a clean sheet of paper and designed and built our boat from the ground up, we were able to achieve more positive results in the appearance and performance of the boat than would be possible using the industry standard methods. Certainly it is a much more difficult process to construct and test a brand new design than to borrow older existing technology, but the results of those efforts are well worth the additional time and trouble. The principals of the company admit to not being the best fisherman on the bay but we are confident that the Outlaw 230X is one of the best shallow water bay boats on the Texas coast. We have designed and built outboard racing boats for over 30 years and have a legacy of successfully building efficient hull designs. We have used this knowledge and experience, along with the input of our customers and guides, to put together a great shallow water bay boat.
